Services Provided By Cottages of Hope: Birth Certificate and ID assistance, a resume.  an e-Mail address, internet access, online job assistance, assistance with renewing electrician license, a free government phone, help with finding housing, and food assistance.

I Am 50 years old and have just paroled from prison.  It seems sad that it’s taken me this much of my life to realize what does not work for me.  And the fact of the matter is I didn’t ask for help when I needed it.

Now that I know better or at least I think I do. Life has handed me a gift of a very special group of people that understand the needs of someone in my position. I had lost everything this time and I knew I was facing a major uphill battle. I had to get my birth certificate, journeyman electrician license renewed, a job, and housing.

I’m now working with the I.B.E.W. Electrical Union Making $29.74/hour plus benefits. I have my own place.  I have my driving Privileges back. I have started the process of going back to school. In other words in just a few short months, 3 to be exact, I have gone from an individual with nothing to someone with tremendous potential. I truly believe in myself again and that is worth more to me, my children, my family, and society as a whole.

I never could have done it as quick as I did without the love and support that I got from all the people at Cottages of Hope. Thank you all for a wonderful chance at this Life again.

Volunteering at Cottages of Hope changed my life. I had been out of work for three years, dejected and feeling pretty hopeless. I came into Cottages of Hope on that first day not knowing what to expect. Everyone here was really nice and I felt very good about Cottages of Hope’s purpose and stated goals. I felt lucky to be a part of that. Just being here makes you feel good. From that day forward I started rebuilding my self-esteem.

My first day here I came in early and applied for some jobs. The next week, I had two interviews. By the end of the following week I found a job at the State Health Department. Chris and the others here at Cottages of Hope helped me immeasurably. I don’t know where I would be without them. Over the course of several months I watched the staff here at Cottages of Hope touch many lives. I think they are a necessary part of the community and that the people of this community would lose a valuable resource.

Darin & Susan Rushing – Tax Clients

My wife and I had spent the past six months or so dreading tax season. I had spent the entire year unemployed and my wife worked part time. Usually we pay someone to prepare our return for us, but this year there was no way we could afford it. Not only was our preparation done for free, but we also wound up with a sizable return. Cottages Of Hope was there for us when we needed them the most and for that we will always be grateful.

I’m a grandmother at 60 years with an adopted daughter and three grandchildren in my care. Cottages of Hope has been such a great resource to me as all of the community. I have been treated with respect and dignity. You are a great place to access and the location is great and close to the community. [Used her refund to get closer to her goal of paying off all of her debt]

Having the opportunity to volunteer with my teenage sons was awesome. It felt great to see their willingness to help others and their professional attitude. But when others noticed it too and mentioned it, I was the proudest parent ever. This was their very first chance to act as a volunteer, and Cottages of Hope made that a good experience for them. I am especially thankful that I got to be a part of it with then.

The Noorda Family – Tax Clients (VITA)

When we went to do our taxes this year we could not believe the great volunteers. With the amount we got back it gave us the ability to pay off medical bills, much needed beds for our girls, and put some money into savings. We our so grateful for this service that Cottages of Hope provides. Thank You!”

Preparing your personal tax return can be a troublesome task. Being able to sit down with someone who really needs help and work with them to complete their return is gratifying. My involvement in this community assistance program helps fulfill a portion of my mission to help others in their time of need.

I enjoyed working on tax returns years ago and now helping and learning again. Especially for those that have difficulty understanding the forms and regulations. They were so thankful for the assistance we could give by completing their tax returns.

My wife and I have benefited from the free, professional services and excellent expertise of Jeremy and Chris at the Cottages of Hope for the last couple of years. Due to the savings plan they helped us set up through UIDAN, we’re going to be able to pay for graduate school. They opened our eyes to the sensibility and simplicity of saving money.

Believe me when I say, if we can do it, then anybody can do it. Most of the time finances can be complicated and confusing, but after taking the free classes we saw it was much simpler to save than we’d previously thought. We began pretending that our savings account was just another bill, and before we knew it, we’d saved over $2000 in a year. And the best part is that we haven’t felt like we’ve sacrificed anything! Thank you Cottages of Hope!
